Unsurprisingly, pets stay close to many of our hearts. And, oftentimes, unsung heroes in our community play a key role in keeping animals safe and finding loving homes for adoptable pets. Decatur Animal Services serves this function in our community and, because of this, deserves a mention.
About Decatur Animal Services
Many cherish animals as akin to their own family. However, sometimes people are unable to adequately care for their pets. That’s where Decatur Animal Services steps in. From admitting animals to setting up adoptions, the City of Decatur’s animal service arm plays an important part in the community.
The main aim of Decatur Animal Services is to boost the bond between our animals and us, serve the community, and instill a sense of sanctity for animal life.
Decatur Animal Services helps strengthen the bond between Decatur and its animals by setting up educational and special event programs, along with rescue, transport, and volunteer services. These vital links to the community put care and compassion first.
In serving the community, our municipal animal shelter receives pets whose owners can no longer care for them, which could be due to a number of circumstances. Decatur Animal Services puts these pets up for adoption, or instructs owners to seek counsel from a veterinarian if behavior is an issue.
Animal life stands at the center of what Decatur Animal Services does. Euthanasia, rather than customary, occurs as a last resort measure. Pets are placed up for adoption, and Decatur Animal Services follows a strict process to find loving homes for these animals.
